In Loving Memory of

Wilma Barasan Myers

December 25, 1966 - November 10, 2007

Long time Barrio Barretto businesswoman Wilma Myers collapsed and died from an apparent blood aneurism on the afternoon of November 10th. She would have been 41 on Christmas Day.

At the time of her passing Wilma was president of the Barretto Business Association, vice-president of Santa Monica Residents Association, treasurer of the International Business Association. She was also serving on the Philippine Realty Association, the Olongapo Tourism council and the mayor’s advisory council. She was also an officer on the Subic Bay Resorts and Hotels Association (SUBRA).

Wilma was the first of ten Barasan children, attended local schools and at the age of 14 began working to help her family and pay her tuition at school. In 1987 she graduated from Columban College with a degree in accounting. She went on to manage several local businesses into the post U.S. Navy era.

She was currently the owner of Mango’s Seaside Restaurant, Rock Lobster Disco and Bay Area Realty. Wilma is remembered by her literally hundreds of Friends from around the World. She is survived by her husband Tom, and her three children Corina, Carla and Clark.

A Note from Tom

"Thank You for all the support so many have shown. I am of course extremely busy taking care of details and the kids and can not answer the many emails, but do know I greatly appreciate your condolences, prayers and thoughts.  I have gotten calls and emails from all over the world and frankly it has been overwhelming.  You, Wilma's friends, sent more flowers than I have ever seen. The many flowers, calls and emails just prove how much Wilma was loved and respected".

I am very sorry for your loss. When my Dad told me that Aunt Wilma passed away, I cried and cried. I just couldn't believe I wasn't going to  see her anymore. Aunt Wilma was like a Mom to me. Aunt Wilma will always be known for being a caring mother, loving wife to Uncle Tom, and an amazing friend to everyone. I will always miss her. Uncle Tom stay strong! You have a lot of friends that love you and your kids, Aunt Wilma would of want that. Hope to see you guys soon .... kiss and warm hugs from the Allegar's. Love Kat Allegar

Tom - I know you don't know me and neither did Wilma. However, when my sister (Wilma and her were high school classmates) called me from New Jersey and broke the sad news, I felt compelled to write. My sister mentioned you guys often after she visited a few years back for a friends/classmates reunion at your Mango's Seaside Grill. I have visited your website numerous times since. Visiting the website somehow brings me close to home every time. Browsing through the pictures posted from chronicling the birth of your kids, to the progress we see as your kids are growing up to be so cute and adorable, the fun-filled, exciting events you guys hold every year for the community, which I am certain everyone looks forward to as each year goes by, all the smiles, the happy faces, etc, it made me feel as though, I knew Wilma then. And when I would think of going home, I would think of stopping by with all the family and friends to try all the specialties and meet her and to perhaps ask what her secrets are for all her success. In that regards, there is no doubt, she will be missed sorely and in some ways, I feel regret for not having the pleasure and the opportunity to know her personally. On behalf of my family and everyone from SAHSAA (St. Anthony's High School Alumni Association) based in San Diego, CA, we would just like to extend our deepest sympathy and our prayers to you and everyone in the family. Thank you and May God bless you all! Grace Estrella Nicolay

Tom - I just logged on to your website for the first time in several weeks, and nearly fell over with the tragic news. Patti and I are so sorry for your loss. I am so happy that we were able to meet you and Wilma earlier this year, and had the chance to briefly get to know you folks. I am at a complete loss for words, Tom. I simply cannot explain my sorrow at Wilma's passing. Please accept our sincerest condolences, and prayers for your family. Alan and Patti Greene

Dear Tom, Corina, Carla & Clark - Wilma touched everyone who came in contact with her in a very special way. Although we have known her only 3 or 4 years, we feel like she is part of our family. We can still see her so busy with all of her projects, while taking good care of Mango's, and her own family. Boundless energy and a calm approach to problem solving, she was truly a unique person on this earth and shall be sorely missed. We are proud to have known her. Paul and Rowena Trombetta

Tom, Corina, Carla, Clark & Barasan Family - Expressing my deepest sympathy and offering a prayer to God to bless and comfort Wilma's family and keep everyone in his care. I wish that I could be there to see Wilma with her family and loved ones. I have known Wilma for 23 years when we first started working together. We treated each other as one family. I have many pleasant memories of Wilma. We had an open heart to discuss many things like family life, love life, spiritual life and sharing business ideas. I don't really know how to express my feelings at the loss of a friend like her. God gave me Tom and Wilma as a blessing. Because of their over flowing support, I reached my goal in life with Wilma's help and understanding. Wilma, wherever you are, from all your friends, we love and miss you so much. You are always in our hearts. May you rest in peace. With sympathy and prayers - Nanay Beth and Children

I wish I could hold and love those beautiful children during the sad days ahead. But nothing can ever replace a mothers touch. For sure Wilma is at peace in heaven. Whereever we are and no matter what we will always stay friends. We touched each others lives in different ways. For now there's a hole in my heart but I find comfort looking at these pictures. I met Wilma only a few years ago and really didn't know her very well, but I know Tom and many of their friends.  It's just amazing to see how many lives she touched in her brief time in our world and her positive influence will undoubtedly continue to guide those she knew. A wealthy person has a lot of money and a lot of things.  A rich person has true friends.  Wilma was very rich, indeed. Jeff Valdez

Tom, It is hard to believe that just a few days ago, you and I were emailing back and forth about Wilma's impending trip to Vegas. I was so proud of her at how successful she was becoming. Her success was staggering but far from surprising. But this is not why she will be so sorely missed. She was truly loved by all that met her. She became more important to me than my own sister. For more than 13 years now, I can not recall her ever using my given name. I was simply "Brother Ko" to her and she "Sis" to me. In 1997, she welcomed my newlywed wife into to our circle of friends and immediately treated her as if they had been friends for years. Later, she honored me by bestowing upon us the privilege of being Corina's Godparents. Six months later she was so excited to become a loving Godmother to our son Stewart. I have many, many pleasant memories of Wilma but If I remember nothing else about Willy, it will be that no matter how big of a "knuckle head" I could become from time to time, she would always welcome me in the mornings with "Good morning Brother Ko, how are you?" No judgements, just love and friendship. Our lives are truly a little emptier now without her. Please remember that you and the kids are part of our family and you will forever be in our hearts and in our prayers. The Robison Family

Dear Tom, Corina, Carla and Clark - While I am sitting here in Florida so saddened by the passing of Wilma, I am also smiling as I reflect on this incredible woman, wife, Mother, friend and beautiful human being.

Wilma always had a smile on her face, a sparkle in her eyes, and an outpouring of warmth to all around her. The mere mention of Corina and a big smile filled her face...so proud of her wonderful daughter. And when you asked about Carla ...Wilma blossomed as she saw in this beautiful child, a Wilma of years ago, saucy, smart and perky. And her little man Clark , the son who was her prince charming...independent yet so loving of his Mommy.

Tom, I always marveled at the way you and Willy were a team, so many actions accomplished with out a word spoken, the two of you were not only connected by love and respect, but also by the same spirit of mutual admiration....from scraping it together, so many years ago, the two of you have built a wonderful life for the Family...From Mangos and the Lobster room...to the reality of "The River House" The team of Tom and Willy got great things done.

In retrospect, I wish I had taken the time to learn more about Wilma...from watching her playing some crazy card game with her friends on the Patio, to seeing her orchestrate all facets in Mangos and the Lobster room, Willy really was on top of her game.

As busy as she was, Willy always had the time to inquire about my family, wanting to see pictures of the Grandchildren, to insisting that I take time to enjoy a round of golf with Tom...Willy was in tune with all the people around her...she was so special and made all of us feel so special.

During these difficult days ahead, I know you and the children will draw comfort from the outpouring of love that is directed your way from Family and Friends from around the world. Just know that I am there with you, in spirit and sending love and prayers from half way around the world.  Love and hugs, my brother. Mike Cohn

Dear Tom - It is so hard being so far away at a time like this.  We just wish that we could hold and love you and the children, but even though we are not able to do that physically, we sure are doing it mentally.  We were going to try to call you, but thought that it might be best for you to call us when the time is right for you.  You are All in our prayers and we Love you Dearly and if there is anything that we can do, please let us know.   Your Uncle Fred and Aunt Mary

I'm still having trouble believing that at the age of 42, one of the most charismatic, wonderful ladies I've ever had the joy of knowing could be taken away. At times like this it's only natural to ask why and how this could happen. For the life of me I don't have the answer, so for the past few days I've occupied my time with sentimental remembrance of Wilma, the kind which has brought me smiles, and more often than not, tears. The joy you brought to your family and friends during the short time you spent on earth was more than most of us could give if we lived several lifetimes. God bless you Wilma Myers, you will always be lovingly remembered and sadly missed. Craig Michael Wick

Dearest Myers Family - I just wanted to write and say how sorry I am for your loss. I met Wilma only through my patronage to Mangos during my many trips to Olongapo. I still remember her convincing me to buy the house a round of drinks to have my name put on the wall. I recall agreeing to do so only if my name was larger than the others, one day later there it was in large letters MARK UNCK. She will truly be missed……Sorry again. My thought and prayers are with your family.  Mark Unck
